The Burroughs Moon Hopkins is a combination typewriter and adding machine. This is a later model, the earlier versions had the beautiful beveled glass sides. The typewriter  was a Remington Upstrike Machine. It is a "Blind Typewriter", meaning, the typist could not see what was being typed until they ended the line and rolled the platen to the next typing line.

Although obsolete in later years, this design did not change to the front strike machine. I suppose they would have had to re-engineer the entire machine.
